Three films shot in Michigan premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, starring big names like Demi Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Ed Helms. What's more, the productions of Another Happy Day, Cedar Rapids and Salvation Boulevard brought 475 jobs and more than $16.8 million in investments to Michigan's economy.
"Sundance is a terrific opportunity to showcase our growing film industry and the caliber of work that is being done on productions shot here in Michigan," said Carrie Jones, Director of the Michigan Film Office. "These films are a great representation of the skilled workforce and diverse locations productions can expect when they come to Michigan. They also are the source of critical jobs and economic investment in our communities and small businesses."
Two of the three productions were Oakland County-based. Another Happy Day was shot in Rochester and Oakland Twp., while Salvation Boulevard shot some scenes in Milford.
"2010 was our most successful year yet, with 48 incentivized projects wrapped and more than $300 million spent in the state last year alone," Jones said. "We are gearing up for what we expect will be another busy year for Michigan’s film industry and the workers and businesses it supports."
