OU, Mott Community College announce innovative concurrent enrollment program

Students will be able to attend Mott Community College (MCC) and Oakland University concurrently, thanks to a new joint admission enrollment program, called Mott2O. It's an innovative higher education option for students in the region, allowing students to enroll in classes at both institutions simultaneously, while offering a simplified admissions process and allowing students to combine credits from both institutions when paying with financial aid.

Mott2O was unveiled on Friday, April 8, at Mott Community College. At the signing were Oakland President Gary D. Russi, Ph.D.; MCC President M. Richard Shaink, Ph.D.; OU Vice President of Outreach Mary L. Otto, Ph.D.; and MCC Vice President for Academic Affairs Amy Fugate, Ph.D.

"It's always exciting to work with highly-respected institutions such as Oakland University on transfer agreements that really benefit our students," said Shaink. "We are so pleased to be partnering with Oakland. Mott2O highlights the importance of supporting the overall education and career development of our students. This agreement is a major initiative, signifying a mutual commitment to providing students with a seamless transition between institutions."

Mott2O offers several benefits to students, including:

• Admission to both institutions through one free online application
• The flexibility to take courses at one or both institutions at the same time
• Expanded course selection-- students may take courses offered at Oakland University's main campus in Rochester, OU-Macomb or any MCC location, plus online courses offered by both institutions
• The option to complete an associate degree while working toward a bachelor's degree
• Coordinated advising -- OU and MCC work together to keep students on track to reach their educational goals
• Access to student activities and resources on all campuses, including OU housing
• Reverse transfer -- students may transfer OU credits back to MCC to fulfill associate degree requirements

"There is a statewide initiative in Michigan to transition to a knowledge-based, 21st-century economy," Russi said. "The partnership between Oakland University and Mott Community College exemplifies the kind of cooperative ventures that Gov. Snyder is encouraging to support that initiative."

First-year and transfer students may begin applying to Mott2O for the fall 2011 semester. OU also offers concurrent enrollment partnerships with Macomb Community College (M2O), Oakland Community College (O2O) and St. Clair County Community College (SC2O).
