Wayne County is truly a "connector."
Wayne County connects 43 communities and 2.1 million citizens in over 623 square miles. It is the most populated county in the state of Michigan and the 11th most populated county in the nation. And we here at Connect are proud that the county's population is one of the most diverse in the United States, and proud that our citizens' respect and value the richness of that diversity.
Our connected vision of the future is one where families thrive, businesses grow, and children receive a world-class education that will prepare them for a diversified global economy.
Wayne County is reaching beyond our regional borders, our state's borders, and even our national borders, to form partnerships that will continue to connect us to the rest of the world. Just this month Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano led a fourth trade mission to China to connect Michigan businesses to opportunities in China.
Back at home, Wayne County has continued its efforts to develop an Airport City in Southeastern Michigan. This "
Aerotropolis" will transform the area between Detroit Metropolitan and Willow Run airports into a global business center, attracting logistics, cargo, and other commercial users.

One-Stop Business Resource Center, the
Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Program, and many others.
Michigan's economy is undergoing a transition of historic significance and as it evolves Wayne County is committed to being ahead of the curve. Through the initiatives discussed in this first issue of Wayne County Connect, as well as projects to be detailed in future editions, the county is pushing forward to a brighter future. The connections we have made yesterday and the connections we are making today will make this great county even better.
