Cobo Center in Detroit shows upgrades by new regional authority

There'll be a lot of things to experience at this year's North American International Auto Show, but hopefully leaky roofs won't be one of them.

The new Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority spent about $3 million to get Cobo ready for this year's auto show, including about $400,000 in roof repairs.

Created last year by state law, the five-member authority took over Cobo from the City of Detroit after years of debate about what to do with the aging facility.

Barron Meade, vice chairman of the auto show, said he noticed Cobo operating more efficiently getting ready for this year's show.

"Definitely we're at the start of what we're going to see come out of the regional authority. We're excited," he said. "The overall feel of the customer experience is just going to continue to improve."
