Greener than you'd think: Detroit ranks among top cities for energy-efficient buildings

Detroit is helping lead the nationwide move to energy-efficient buildings, according to the Environmental Protection Agency's second-annual report card.

The EPA awards its Energy Star label to commercial buildings that rank among the the top 25 percent of buildings nationwide for energy efficiency,  and contrary to its rust-belt reputation, Detroit had the 15th most Energy Star buildings in the country for 2009.

In total, 62 buildings in Detroit earned the EPA seal last year, including the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, the Renaissance Center and the Compuware Headquarters at Campus Martius.
