New film festival planned for Detroit in March

Detroit will host it's first ever independent film festival in March.

Excerpt:

The inaugural Detroit International Film Festival will kick off in March at the Burton Theatre, formerly Burton International School, in Detroit's Cass Corridor neighborhood.

Festival director Robert Joseph Butler says organizers "really want to build up the Michigan film community," which has been growing since the state's generous tax incentives took effect last year.

Organizers are now seeking short films to screen during the event, scheduled for March 3-7. Question-and-answer sessions with filmmakers are planned as well.

The deadline for submissions is Dec. 30 and there is no entry fee.
