TechTown leading Detroit's push for Google Fiber

Officials at Wayne State University's TechTown urban research park have jumped into the effort to get an ultra-high-speed experimental network from Google Inc.

They say the Motor City, which got the world moving, is a perfecct place for the network -- long a hub of innovation, Detroiters are hungry for the next best thing.

"For many decades, Detroit has been building engines that take people to new places," said TechTown Executive Director Randal Charlton. "We can help Google develop a different type of engine that will help new businesses in Detroit developing a new generation of internet applications."

TechTown officials are asking Detroiters to show their support and vote for TechTown as a community group now in the Google Fiber for Communities vote-off at www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi. By voting for TechTown, you vote for Detroit and Southeast Michigan.
