Bills to create tax-free renaissance zones for aerotropolis head to House

A bill that would create a tax-free renaissance zone for the aerotropolis is heading to the House.

Revamped legislation that would create tax incentive zones as part of the "aerotropolis" concept championed by Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano is headed to the full state House for consideration.

The bills would create five Next Michigan Development Corporations -- half of what the original legislation called for. The new bills allow each of the corporations to establish up to 12 tax-free renaissance zones.

Eligible businesses, which have to be engaged in some type of logistics, would have to create at least 500 new jobs to qualify for the tax incentives.
