Michigan House passes legislation in support of the Aerotropolis

Today, the Michigan House of Representatives passed six bills collectively known as the Next Michigan Development Act with overwhelming bipartisan support. The Act is designed to empower regional entities with economic development incentives to attract jobs near transportation hubs across the state.

"It's great to see Lansing take a lead in moving our economy forward," said Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano. "This legislation will help the Aerotropolis create 64,000 jobs for citizens of our region and generate millions in tax revenue for our State. I'm grateful for the support of all of our partners and we look forward to passage of these bills by the Senate."

The Next Michigan Development Act expands upon existing state statutes by providing incentives to attract supply-chain and logistics-oriented companies and companies that move goods via two or more modes of transportation. The Detroit Region Aerotropolis Development Corporation is one such entity that could qualify to use the incentives outlined in the Act. The Aerotropolis Development Corporation involves a partnership between seven communities and two counties surrounding Detroit Metro and Willow Run airports.

The package of bills will now move to the Senate for introduction.
