The candidate who is accepted for this position must possess general knowledge of shelf-life, chemistry and packaging, as it applies to food reviews and data summaries

Description

• Assists in the design and implementation of shelf life testing plans customized to each project.

• Leads shelf life food reviews and provides program support.

• Interacts with other Research and Development departments including, but not limited to, Product Development, Chemistry, Sensory, Packaging, and Quality during cross-functional team food reviews.

• Able to recognize substantial barriers and flag issues to their manager and project team for resolution.

• Ability to evaluate food using sensory attributes. Must use and understand technical terminology for changes in food sensory characteristics.

• Able to lead group discussions and bring group to consensus when evaluating foods.

• Coordinates and maintains schedule of routine food reviews.

• Write final report integrating both food review conclusions and analytical chemistry data.

• Assist with sample logistics, including receiving and storage of samples, removal of samples and ensuring arrival at proper destination. 

• Acts as data approver for data generated by applicable functional group(s).

• Communicates pertinent questions or information to client service staff, sample management, study directors, or clients.

• Monitors/evaluates the scientific and quality performance of routine assays through control charts or other means. Provides stakeholders with progress reports as needed.

• Develops client relationships at the direction of management.

• Responsible for completing Out of Specification (OOS) reports, Covance Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIR’s), Corrective Action/Preventative Action (CAPA) reports, or other.

• Discusses project or method issues with the area supervisor, and suggests solutions and actions.

• Initiates eNotes and responds to eQA audits as needed.

• Works with lab staff to implement client specific procedures, investigations, or validations.

• Keeps methods, method summaries, and method references current and accurate.

• Assure on-time delivery of high quality data.

• Assure that final results reported are approved and in compliance with appropriate SOPs.

• Participates in client visits.  

• Provides input on team performance to area supervisor.

• Acts as a backup to other technical leaders.

• Monitors progress and status of projects to meet necessary deadlines.

• Acts as a lead chemist on complex projects as necessary.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience

Education/Experience

Desired experience includes sensory analysis, descriptive panel management, panel leadership, quality food evaluation, group facilitation and ability to taste and describe food products.   

Basic requirements include:
• Detailed oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, technical writing skills or experience is a plus.  

• Able to work effectively in a team environment with diverse team members.

• Ability to work across multiple projects with changing objectives and deadlines in a fluid and ever changing environment.

• Excellent customer service.

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Outlook (including calendars), PowerPoint and Word. Use and knowledge of Share Point and LIMs systems is desired.  

Bachelor Degree in Science, preferably Food Science/Food Chemistry with at least 5 years of technical experience in food sensory.
