The state has recognized Kaiser Optical Systems as a clean corporate citizen this year.
The Ann Arbor-based firm received the award because its facility, 371 Parkland Plaza, exemplifies environmental responsibility and serves as a model of such environmental stewardship to other firms across the state.
The company received the award, which is actually a renewal of its status as a state-recognized clean corporate citizen, for implementing an environmental management system and working to prevent pollution. The firm's facility has reduced its hazardous waste production by 75 percent. It has also created a successful wildlife habitat on its grounds.
Kaiser Optical Systems produces optical fibers that are used for a number of things around the world, such as pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing, nanotechnology, telecommunications, education, homeland defense, deep-sea exploration and astronomy.
