A new home for Ann Arbor's police and court system is one step closer to reality after the City Council hired a firm to plan and design the new structure Monday night.
The city will pay Quinn Evans Architects $833,000 to design the proposed $34-million building. The structure is set to be built on the site of the city hall, at the corner of Fifth Ave and Huron Street. It will house the 15th District Court and the city's police department.
The issue of building a new structure to replace city hall has proved contentious in City Council. Several plans have been proposed in recent years, but they have all stalled.
