Workers are putting the finishing touches on the $3.4-million renovation of the Tower Plaza in downtown Ann Arbor.
The renovations included both exterior and interior work, which includes replacement of all of the windows in the 26-story building. The new improvements will provide year-round comfort, create additional space in the units and dramatically update the building’s aesthetics.
Tower Plaza is the city’s tallest structure at the corner of Maynard and East William streets. It was built in the late 1960’s as an apartment building before being converted to condominiums in 1989. The building has a variety of unit styles, ranging from studios to penthouse suites. Several units are also used as offices. On a clear day people in the building can see skyscrapers in downtown Detroit and the Fermi nuclear plant in Monroe.
Detroit-based SmithGroup is served as the architectural firm for the project while Ann Arbor-based O’Neal Construction handled construction. Ann Arbor-based Kramer-Triad Management Group is the developer while Ann Arbor Commerce Bank is financing it.
