The University of Michigan's new home for open heart surgery will open its doors with the grand opening of the university's Cardiovascular Center on June 7.
The new 350,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility for adult heart and vascular care is at the corner of Ann and Observatory streets on the north side of the university's central campus. The five-story building features a large clinic for outpatient diagnosis and treatment, 19 operating and procedure rooms, 48 inpatient rooms, a cafe, auditorium and indoor gardens. An eight-foot-tall bronze sculpture called "My Heart is in Your Hand" will be displayed in the grand lobby on level three.
It is also connected to the UofM Hospital and the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital via sky bridges and tunnels. The center also has its own 465-space parking garage. Tours of the new facility will be open to the public during the grand opening until 6 p.m.
