What was once a place for hard work is now about to become the home to a lot of fun in Melvindale.
Mike Kostrzwa and Eric Anderson are gearing up to open Play Atlas, a family fun center, at 19400 Allen Road later this month. The 33,000-square-foot, light-industrial building housed the partners pallet business between 1994 and 2005.
Another industrial firm occupied it until recently, and then the two had to figure out what to do with it. They decided to build a fun center with putt-putt golf, video arcades and birthday rooms.
"It's not going to sell and it's not going to get another tenant," Anderson says. "Mike and I talked about this for years so we thought, 'Why not?'"
Right now the budding fun center occupies about 19,000 square feet of the building. The partners hope to expand into laser tag next and eventually into go-carts and batting cages.
"We have plenty of room for this," Anderson says.
