Imagine going to U-M's homecoming, whopping it up at the tailgate party, bringing the party home for the night then returning to your real home the next day.
The Brenan Hospitality Management Group hopes to make that a reality within the next few years with its combination hotel/condo building in Ann Arbor. The 180-unit building will have three to four stories and be located within 1.5 miles of Michigan Stadium. Each unit will range in size between 400 to 650 square feet and priced between $189,000 and $249,000.
Much as ski resort condos cater to occassional residents, so too can Big Ten campuses. The idea is to give Wolverine die-hards a place of their own to stay while attending the game weekends... thus skirting exorbitant hotel rates. Brenan Hospitality already has similar developments in East Lansing (Michigan State), South Bend (Notre Dame) and Lincoln (Nebraska), among other college towns across the country. About half of the 200 units in South Bend have sold and Brenan Hospitality is about to close on the property for the East Lansing 144-unit development.
"Ann Arbor is in the top 12 places of where we want to go and hope to have 35 in the future," says, Michael Brenan, president of Brenan Hospitality.
The exact location of the Ann Arbor development has not been disclosed yet, but more information will be released this spring when the developer presents plans to the city. The developer hopes to start construction next year and be finished by the spring of 2009.
