Lincoln Park haunted tours spotlight preservation

Who would have thought that ghost stories could help save buildings? Well, the people of Lincoln Park have a tale to tell.

The Downriver suburb is kicking off its 2nd annual Fort Park Ghost Walking Tour on Oct. 24. The tour highlights local buildings in and around downtown Lincoln Park along with ghost stories and history lessons associated with them. It also brings more visitors and commerce to the downtown area during one of its cash-cow holidays.

"We need to promote historic preservation around these holidays," says Leslie Lynch-Wilson, president of the Lincoln Park Preservation Alliance.

The walking tour starts at the Lincoln Park Historical Museum parking lot at 7:30 p.m. and heads down Fort Park towards Garfield. Among the spooks mentioned are a fireman ghost who walks the halls of City Hall and a haunting of one of the city's oldest homes, plus stories of bootlegging in the 1920s.
