Madonna University opens new Franciscan Center

Madonna University is opening the Franciscan Center on its Livonia Campus this fall.

The new building will focus on science and media studies and is the first new structure to be built on the campus within four decades. The $20 million project resulted in a 60,000-square-foot building with dozens of classrooms and offices, digital audio and television studios, a café, and a student gathering area. The labs can facilitate studies in astronomy, quantum physics, genetics, and microbiology.

The building also features a number of environmentally friendly features, such as employing green materials ranging from cork to bamboo to recycled carpeting. Natural lighting permeates the building's two stories, helping it achieve silver LEED certification.
