After three years and $300 million, the entire
MotorCity Casino Hotel
renovation and expansion is complete. Most recently, several dining and
drinking venues have opened, including the smoke-free Overdrive Bar and
Spectators, a sports bar that features Michigan microbrews.
The
1,886 Sound Board Theater is also now open. It will be used for
national music talent, boxing matches and corporate events. "It's a
road-house theater environment -- like a House of Blues or Hard Rock
Cafe," says Bill Borenstein, MCCH's vice president of entertainment and
theater operations.
Sound Board features a state-of-the art
sound, lighting and video package. "From an entertainment point of
view, this is one of the most technically state- of-the-art-driven
theaters in the country right now," says Borenstein. "It's definitely
an artist's house."
There are two skyboxes that can be rented
out for shows; one is behind the stage, which gives "a really
interesting feel and look" to the performance, Borenstein says.
With all its build-out complete, MotorCity Casino Hotel has 67,000 square feet of event and banquet space.
