The city of Ann Arbor recently created a non-motorized transportation plan to encourage non-motorized modes of transportation, such as pedestrians and bicyclists, in the Ann Arbor area.
The plan replaces the city’s bicycle master plan, will be incorporated into the city’s master plan, and calls for implementing corridor-specific infrastructure improvements, such as new bicycle lanes, shared use paths, sidewalks and refuge islands. These policies and guidelines hope to establish a safe and comprehensive non-motorized transportation system.
Work began on developing the plan in early 2004, which included public workshops and professional city planning input. The Downtown Development Authority and the University of Michigan each contributed $20,000 to the planning effort.
