Ann Arbor brings recycling options to it parks

Recycling and parks. Two great tastes that taste great together.

Ann Arbor
has long been known for its excellent park system and recycling program. So local leaders thought why not add these two together by offering recycling options at all of the city's 147 parks?

For years, the city's parks utilized large garbage cans throughout to collect the refuse of patrons. Now there will be three-gallon containers for people to recycle paper, bottles and cans. The change came after a number of people requested recycling be added to the parks' amenities.

"After we received the suggestion from our customers we moved quickly to implement the service at each of our parks locations," says Jason Nealis, the facility supervisor at Veteran’s Memorial Park Sports Complex who helped spearhead the project. "The parks are contributing to the city’s green infrastructure and environmental sustainability through the recycling initiative."

Ann Arbor residents have invested millions of tax dollars in their park system throughout the city's history, creating one of the best in the state. The city has also made huge strides to become as environmentally friendly as possible. Its recycling program, also revered as one of the best in the state, has been at the forefront of those efforts.
