Pewabic Pottery makes moves to expand campus

Pewabic Pottery has begun demolition of a building that will allow the venerable organization to expand its campus.

Excerpt:

Executive director Terese Ireland called the demolition "an important milestone for Pewabic," as it will open up a sight line to the organization's National Historic Landmark building from the west.

Ireland estimates that the execution of the entire master plan, which includes renovation of Pewabic's current building and construction of the clay studio, will cost more than $10 million and will require a multi-year capital campaign.

The expanded campus has become necessary to accommodate the 55,000 visitors and 9,000-plus students who come there annually.
