Midtown mixed-use development sees residents start moving in, lands new retail tenants

Studio One Apartments in Midtown Detroit has welcomed its first residents and signed two more retail tenants: Starter's Bar & Grill and Biggby Coffee -- Detroit's first.

Studio One Apartments has leased 55 percent of its 124 apartments that range from 650 to 1,008 square feet and from $870 to $1,395. The southern half of the building is complete and construction will wrap on the second half by mid-August.

Marcel Burgler, principal of Grand Rapids-based Prime Development, is thrilled to see signs of life in the building. "I go by at night and see lights on and people on their balcony," he says. And, he hopes the Woodward-facing tenants agree that their view of the neon MOCAD sign is uniquely affirming. "I would love to wake up every morning and see 'Everything is Going to be All Right!'"
