The face of downtown Wyandotte is set to change incrementally now that the state of Michigan has approved tax credits for a $1 million development.
Oak Wyandotte plans to redevelop the old Firestone Store at the corner of Biddle Avenue and Superior Boulevard. The plan is to demolish the existing vacant building and make way for a single story commercial building with space for a restaurant and/or retail use.
The half-acre parcel contains a 12,000-square-foot building. The circa-1936 structure became contaminated over years spent serving as an auto service center. It has been vacant since 2003.
The $1 million project is expected to create 10-15 jobs. The Michigan Economic Growth Authority made a $118,750 tax credit available for the project.
