The Wireless Source recycles it way to a dozen new jobs

Consistently growing and profitable. Words any business person would like to be associated with their enterprise and words Bob Sullivan freely uses in reference to his venture The Wireless Source.

The company specializes in recycling cell phone and other mobile electronics. The phone's data is erased before its refurbished and resold, like most of them are. Two years ago The Wireless Source recycled 1.5 million phones, did another 2 million last year and expects to take in another 3 million this year.

"A majority of the phones can be refurbished and resold in emerging markets," say Sullivan, CEO of The Wireless Source.

About 130 cell phones are retired ever year and several hundred million sit in drawers or glove boxes. They are easily forgotten because they don't take up as much room as say old computers or TVs.

But many of them still end up with the Bloomfield Hill-based company. That brings in enough work to let the company expand from two employees in 1999 to 40 today. Sullivan expects his firm to hire another dozen this year.
