Troy-based Credential Check on track to 45% revenue increase in 2007

Troy-based Credential Check saw a 45% revenue increase in the first quarter of this year. Citing 600% growth in the last five years, company president Michael Pachuta anticipates even greater growth in the next 3-5 years.

Now a company of 24 with12 independent contractors --half of which are in Michigan-- Credential Check anticipates adding 7-9 positions in the coming year.

"We are looking for young, talented people," says Pachuta. "We do a lot of recruiting from Oakland University." Most positions will be in client services, business development and account management.

Founded in 1957, this former security company became an Ann Arbor investigation firm in the 80s. In 1995 Steve Smith bought the company and transformed it into Credential Check. Partnering with programmer Pachuta six years ago, the company changed its focus to pre-employment screening and started to see phenomenal growth.

Though they specialize in staffing companies and franchise systems, Credential Check has been steadily attracting a diverse list of companies from around the country. Still, they remain firmly planted in Southeast Michigan.

"Michigan is a great place because you have access to a lot of big companies and a lot of diversification," says Pachuta. "There's a lot of service orientation companies, retail and staffing companies, sports teams and franchises." Local accounts include RHP Properties --one of the top 5 mobile home and apartment community owners in the country-- and Auto Component Holdings.
