General Dynamics lands contracts with US Army

Sterling Heights-based General Dynamics Land System, a subsidiary of General Dynamics Corporation, will begin work with the United States Army Tank Automotive and Armaments Command in Warren, the company announced.

The contracts, which total $31 million, include a $9.1 million contract for interior and exterior driver-enhancement kits for the Strykers (a family of armored troop transporter vehicles), said Peter Keating, vice president of communications and public affairs.

The company hopes to have the Stryker vehicles finished by October 31.

The company, which has created land and amphibious combat systems for the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps and allied nations for over sixty years, recently added 220 employees, including 130 engineers. The branch now employs over 2,400 individuals.

General Dynamics Corporation is a market leader in business aviation and employs 81,000 worldwide. In 2006, the Virginia-based company posted revenues of $24.1 billion.
