While there are true and valiant efforts towards sustainability all over Southeast Michigan, Ann Arbor is certainly leading the pack on almost every level. This coming week, two major events arrive that might even make it all that more of a green utopia.
On June 12, University of Michigan will host a TechKnow on alternative fuels entitled "Alternative Fuel Cars - So What's the Plan?" The speakers are the big dogs in the rooms when it comes to alternative fuel vehicles: Tesla's CEO Martin Eberhard, GM's Larry Burns, David Cole from the Center for Automotive Research and Automobile Magazine's Jean Jennings.
Expect a lively discussion on different technologies and if and how Southeast Michigan is leading the way in this arena. The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Power Center in Ann Arbor; it costs $25 for the general public. For more information, call 734.615.9310.
Ann Arbor's seventh Green Fair will take over Main Street between E. Huron and William on Friday, June 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be three separate events.
One area will showcase over 50 environmental non-profits, municipal services and county-designated "Waste Knot" businesses. This area will also include an art display, environmental trivia and crafts.
The Green Energy Area will showcase alternative fuel vehicles and renewable energy solutions for homes and businesses. BikeFest, the third area, will feature maintenance clinic, demonstrations, contests and cycling information.
