U-M space race: 2 teams of scientists compete to have their mission to Mars funded by NASA

NASA will consider a pair of proposals for a Mars orbiting space station from University of Michigan scientists, pitting researchers from the Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences against each other.

Excerpt:

"Each of the teams will receive $2 million for a nine-month feasibility study, and NASA will choose one for full development at a total cost of not more than $475 million. The two projects were chosen from among 26 proposals submitted last year for the Mars Exploration Project."
