The Detroit Council of the Urban Land Institute will host "Making Green Work: The Practical Side of Sustainability" at Lawrence Technological University on June 13. The national experts that will speak include:
Gary Jay Saulson, the director of Corporate Real Estate for The PNC Financial Services Group. Saulson has completed several green buildings, including one of the world's largest certified green buildings located in Pittsburgh.
Gregory H. Kats, the Senior Advisor to Cherokee Investment Partners and a member of the LEED Steering Committee. Kats authored Green Office Buildings: a Practical Guide to Development as well as industry-standard technical reports on costs and benefits to building green.
In a statement, Eric Larson, ULI Detroit chairman and president and CEO of Larson Realty Group, said, "The volume of green buildings is rising throughout the country because people are realizing that this type of development is not only environmentally friendly, but in the long term, economically beneficial and quite practical."
The event will also include a presentation on the basics of green building by local expert James L. Newman of Newman Consulting Group and a tour of LTU's LEED-certified Taubman Student Services Center (read more about the building here).
Making Green Work will run from 7 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and includes continental breakfast. Registration information is available at www.detroit.uli.org; the deadline for pre-registration is June 8.
