Not all successful new economy incubation companies come from Ann Arbor or Detroit. Ajlsoft is one of the newest firms to spread its wings and take off from the nest of Oakland University's SmartZone business incubator.
The 3-year-old firm, which makes document automation software, landed in new offices in Auburn Hills with a dozen or so employees. That's after it experienced 50 percent growth last year and created a handful of new positions.
Ajlsoft's software specializes in taking information from documents, organizing it and putting it into a database so it's easily retrievable. The company's biggest clients have turned out to be financial and law firms trying to sort through reams and reams of information, looking for that elusive nugget of informational gold.
The software uses an artificial intelligence to determine what information is valuable and optimizes it for easy retrieval. Right now Ajlsoft is looking to make its software accessible on the Internet so users can install and pay from their keyboards and mice.
"That's really where the software industry is heading," says Kevin Clifford, business development manager for Ajlsoft.
