American Laser Centers is booming. Recently named #403 on
Inc. Magazine's annual list of the 500 fastest-growing private firms in the United States, the Farmington Hills-based company has added 35 clinics across the country this year alone, bringing its total to 191 corporate and 29 licensed. ALC clinics perform non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as hair removal and skin rejuvenation.
The company employs close to 1,400 people, more than 200 at its Michigan headquarters alone. In the last year, 403 positions have been added across the country, 135 of which came to Farmington Hills. Dr. Kathleen Gilmore, corporate medical director and vice president, attributes the company's success to its centralized operations. "There was a lot of effort early on to develop a fundamental background and a call center," she says. "Our clinics are standardized across the board, and we focus a great deal on quality and safety and customer service."
This corporate identity is strengthened by ALC's branding and marketing campaign, all of which is conducted in-house. IT is also centralized, which has led to optimization of scheduling and billing, all of which contributes to ALC's growth.
"There is a great deal of talent as far as Southeastern Michigan goes," says Gilmore. The company is currently hiring call center staff and in the accounting and
IT departments. "We will continue to add in pieces to support our operations," she adds. The company operates 16 clinics in Michigan, three of which have opened in the past year.
