ArvinMeritor to create 119 new jobs at its SW Detroit facility

Tier One automotive supplier ArvinMeritor has managed to escape its industry's doldrums and, in fact, is hiring. Its Southwest Detroit plant currently employs more than 250, but the addition of operations will necessitate hiring an additional 119 employees.

"This investment is the type of investment critical to sustaining Detroit -- these are good paying jobs with benefits," says State Representative Steve Tobocman, whose Twelfth District takes in ArvinMeritor's W. Fort St. facility. "Despite challenges faced globally in manufacturing and automotive manufacturing, there are new opportunities everyday along the lines of this first tier automotive supplier."

ArvinMeritor's plant was built in 2001 and currently assembles sunroofs and suspension modules.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is supporting ArvinMeritor's growth with $1.1 million in incentives over seven years. The ArvinMeritor incentive was one of 12 that MEDC announced on March 18 that, in total, will create 3,231 jobs.
