Atlas Copco to add 30 jobs to Auburn Hills facility

Governor Jennifer Granholm's European investment missions seem to paying off. After a recent meeting with executives from Atlas Copco A.B. in Stockholm, she announced that the Swedish company would add 30 positions to its Auburn Hills facility.

Established in the United States in 1950, Atlas Copco manufactures industrial equipment including compressors and generators, mining and drilling equipment, construction and demolition tools, and industrial power tools. The new positions will be electrical engineers and sales and marketing staff.

"Our strength in high-tech research and manufacturing innovation make our state a powerful competitor in the global arena," Michigan Economic Development Corporation President and CEO James C. Epolito said in a statement. "We will continue to work with Atlas Copco to ensure the company's continued growth and success in Michigan."

More than 50 Swedish companies have operations in Michigan, employing more than 6,000 residents. On the trip, Granholm focused heavily on determining how Sweden’s alternative energy programs could impact Michigan’s alternative energy strategy as well as on the Michigan and Sweden Vehicle Communications Systems Partnership, which is designed to create relationships in the world of vehicle communications technology.

Epolito and Granholm followed their three-day trip to Sweden with one to Germany -- which also met with success.
