Southfield firm moves "I've fallen and I can't get up!" into the 21st century

Southfield-based Chasm Business Solutions has developed the HealthButton, a hands-free device that connects senior citizens directly to health care professionals when necessary.

Company officials say the system is different from the “l've fallen and I can't get up!” systems that have been on the market for 25 years. Rather than calling 911 or a private call center, HealthButton connects the person directly to health care professionals -- visiting nurses and doctors -- 24 hours a day.

The system is being marketed to insurers and hospital groups.
