Chrysler has announced its plans to spread its existing hybrid system
and implement a new two-mode system beginning with its 2009 line.

Chrysler didn’t say what other vehicles would get the two-mode hybrid system, which it developed in laboratories in Troy in partnership with General Motors Corp. and BMW AG.
The two-mode system adds a second motor and two additional planetary gearsets to the typical single-mode system used on competitive hybrids such as the Toyota Prius. This provides optimized performance at both high and low speeds; other full hybrids are typically built to benefit low-speed driving only.
