Community Foundation merges arts with social media, fundraising

Shake up local arts organizations, social media, and $1 million and what do you get? The latest initiative from the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan.

The Community Foundation just issued a $1 million challenge grant to 75 local arts and culture non-profits. The goal is to get these organizations to begin utilizing the Internet and social media to spur their fundraising. The Community Foundation will match what they raise.

"We're helping the organizations step up when it comes to using the Internet to talk to their donors," says Theresa Fraley, special assistant to the president of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan.

This August, the Community Foundation is offering webinars and seminars on how to best utilize these new communication avenues, including classes on Twitter, Facebook, blogs, YouTube and Flickr.
