Survey of local business owners reveals no clear consensus on how to better economy

Crain's Detroit Business conducted a survey of small business owners in Southeast Michigan, and there was a wide range of opinions about how to better the economy.

Excerpt:

Some 63 percent considered it a "top priority" to "develop more high technology research centers," and another 36 percent considered it moderately or mildly important. Virtually no one considered that area unimportant.

Cutting taxes and red tape hindering economic development — a staple of the MEDC's work in offering tax abatements to lure and retain businesses in Michigan — followed close behind that first choice with major support in the survey of business professionals.
