Taylor-based edge14 goes for gusto with new software

A couple of months ago a pair of friends, Mauricio Gomes and Kevin Patel, got together in Taylor to chase after their own business idea. These software entrepreneurs came up edge14, a company that proudly proclaims to "represent Michigan's new, diverse portfolio of non-automotive based companies."

They have already brought one person on as they released their first product. Tofu is a web-based intranet and calendaring software for business, academic and personal use.

"We felt a lot of small businesses have a slow rate of adaptation to technology because of price or what not." Gomes says. "We just wanted to provide another approach to using software."

The company is working with a subscription model for their program and is developing yet more software. It hopes to have between 30,000-50,000 customers within a year or two. If and when that happens, Gomes and Patel expect to hire a few more people and help further expand Michigan's non-automotive economy.
