Green Electric Supply looks to put a twist into energy efficient lighting

If it's so easy why doesn't everybody do it?

That's a good question when it comes to replacing old incandescent light bulbs with new CFLs. It's as easy as, well, you know... But there is still a bevy of old light bulbs sucking up way too much electricity out there.

Rich Osterhout and his sister Jill Hill are trying to change that with their new business, Green Electric Supply. The Rochester-based firm specializes in changing out old energy hog light bulbs with new energy efficient CFLS. It started in December but has watched business steadily increase since then as people realize the savings that come with CFLs.

"The money that is saved over the life of the lamp has dramatically increased," Osterhout says. "It's a win-win situation all around and it's such an easy thing to do."

But there are little things that he and his sister know that many people might not think of immediately. They tell customers what bulbs work best for what situations, price them out and install them if necessary. They do everything from homes to businesses where people either don't have the time to do it or don't know enough.

"A lot of what we're focusing on is redirecting energy consumption on all levels, both commercial and residential" Osterhout says. "
