Authors take note of Jexbo, a self-publishing website

Jill Exler published her own book in 2007; problem was, she had no place to sell it. Well, that's not unusual with self-publishing, but she was looking for an online venue and coming up dry.

Traditional websites like Amazon weren't too functional or financially worthwhile for self-publishers, so Exler decided to start her own outlet. Jexbo specializes in helping budding authors and publishers get their tomes into the hands of readers everywhere.

"It's very much like eBay," Exler says. "People who self-publish books list and sell them."

The Dearborn-based start-up helps writers to market and promote their work virally through blogs and Twitter. After being live for only a short time, the company has 75 books online. Exler hopes to significantly raise that count this year.
