Troy entrepreneur goes solo with ID theft security firm

A couple years ago, Jill Feeney reached a crossroads in her life. That's when she decided to take the leap of faith into the great beyond of being her own boss.

Her corporate job had offered Prepaid Legal Services as a benefit, a service she loved. She decided to become an independent contractor for it's identity theft protection section. She now works with her husband Patrick, building what seems like an ever-expanding client list.

"I was ready to leave the corporate world behind," Feeney says. "I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. This was just the right place and the right time and I completely believe in the product."

The service educates individuals and businesses about identity theft and the many forms it takes. It also checks credit reports and will work to clean up the mess left by identity thieves. This includes everything from credit card theft to somebody putting their face on a copy of your drivers license or using your identity to have medical procedures done.

There's enough stuff out there that Feeney has doubled her client list in her second year.

"It goes well beyond credit cards," Feeney says. "That’s only 40 percent of what is out there. It’s huge."
