MEDC tax breaks lead to 867 new jobs in Metro Detroit

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced another wave of investment in Michigan. The latest news means 867 new jobs in Metro Detroit from $34 million in new investment, coming thanks to $11.3 million in tax breaks.

It's part of a larger package that gave tax breaks and incentives to 15 companies across the state so they can grow in Michigan. That package is expected to create and retain 9,495 jobs and generate more than $658 million in new investment.  

Among the winners are:

Kelly Services, which will invest to invest $7.8 million to consolidate business units in Troy. Kelly Services is the second largest staffing company in the U.S. and fourth largest in the world. It plans to create 572 new jobs at the company over the next seven years thanks to a $4.7 million state tax credit.

Testek is a designer and builder of test equipment for the aerospace, automotive and industrial markets. It plans to invest $5.2 million to move to a larger facility in Lyon Township from Livonia.  The company expects to hire 27 new people. The state is giving Testek a $452,000 tax credit over 10 years.     

Ricardo, which received another tax credit earlier this year, will get a $2.2 million state break over 13 years to invest $12.3 million to establish a rolling chassis dynamometer facility at its site in Van Buren Township. The eco-innovation technology company that specializes in automotive fuel efficiency plans to hire 45 people because of the investment.

Danotek Motion Technologies develops and manufactures of magnet generators and power control electronics. It plans to expand its operation and relocate to Plymouth where it will build 3 Mega Watt variable speed PM generators for wind turbines. The company plans to hire 141 people. It will receive a $2.5 million state tax break over 10 years.  

Aisin Group will pump $8.6 million into building its Technical Center of America in Plymouth. The automotive supplier firm will receive a $1.3 million tax cut over seven years, allowing it to hire 82 people.
