MotorCities National Heritage Area to offer enhanced audio tours of region's automotive history

MotorCities National Heritage Area leaders will begin rolling out  audio tours that will  promote the region's automotive history in an attempt to bolster the state's $17.5 million tourism industry.

"Yes, it's old stuff, that's part of the (automotive) story," said Gary Familian, MotorCities executive director. "But people who are tourists today are living in the 21st century.

MotorCities is encouraging technology at historical sites, such as downloadable MP3 tours, by revamping its Web site the next two months. Familian said the site will provide an interactive map of attractions. His ambition is to ultimately unite the automotive tourism region, which includes Dearborn, Flint, Ypsilanti, Jackson and Kalamazoo, by providing in-car audio tours.
