MTI Energy turns energy efficiency into new jobs

MTI Energy Management/Lighting Specialists started 19 years ago trying to sell commercial companies on the economic virtues of energy efficiency. Until recently it was a hard sell, but the little Brighton-based firm persevered.

Today the firm employs 25 people and has no problem convincing cleints that they need to conserve energy. In fact many companies are looking for their services now.

"Our customers are better educated and starting to seek us out," says Jackie Zaplitny, controller of MTI Energy Management.

The firm specializes in helping client companies find energy efficiencies in their business. Often time it's as simple as changing an incandescent light bulb to a CFL or simply cleaning and modernizing a light.

The firm is looking to expand its business into some alternative energy fields, such as wind and solar for commercial buildings. If it can successfully break into these markets, Zaplitny can see MTI Energy Management adding a few people in the near future.
