U-M's Office of Technology Transfer has changed its policy regarding
patent compensation for school employees and students. Previously,
there was less incentive for inventors to pursue patents, as any
compensation from an outside company meant forfeiting payment from the
university.
Excerpt:
In 2006, the Tech Transfer office had 288 invention
disclosures, 97 licensing agreements and about $20.4 million
in revenue from equity and royalties.
