Profits up 43 percent for Southfield's TechTeam Global

Life and the bottom line are continuing to look up for TechTeam Global.

The Southfield-based firm reported a profit of $1.7 million for the first three months of this year, which is up from $904,000 in the same time last year. Among the highlights of the profitable quarter is total revenue up 42.8 percent over last year. This was accomplished via a combination of acquisitions and organic growth.

TechTeam's government business was up 94 percent to $22 million, which was also largely thanks to acquisitions and some organic growth. The company also opened up new international locations in Germany, Romania and Sweden.

TechTeam is one of Metro Detroit's major tech-based firms. It's global headquarters is in Southfield and it also has a sizable office in Ann Arbor. Both locations are home to hundreds of high-tech jobs and a major part of southeast Michigan's new economy.

The company also recently won a government contract that could lead to $2.5 billion in further federal government contracts. If business continues to go well, more jobs could be in line for its Metro Detroit locations. However, a final decision is dependent on how much new business is created.
