Pure Visibility's new downtown Ann Arbor digs offer an amenity well-suited to the company: great views. From where Catherine Juon, the firm's COO and catalyst, sits, the aptness of Ann Arbor's "Tree Town" moniker is quite apparent. "All I can see are trees!" she says. Their move to the fifth floor of the historic First National Building comes at a time of growth and increased, well, visibility in the world of search engine marketing.
"We help people get found on the internet," say Juon of her company's purpose. One advantage of Pure Visibility? It is
AdWords-Qualified by Google, a designation that fewer than 60 companies in the United States have achieved. Juon says people don't understand the importance and the difficulty of their website being search engine optimized. "People have to be able to find you for what you are selling, not for
you."
Describing the Pure Visibility staff as "incredibly super-smart," she says the root of search engine marketing is "finding the right words that are meaningful to the company and to the audience." These are two separate circles of thought and her staff has to identify "where those two circles intersect."
The company was founded by Juon and Linda Girard in 2005 with four employees. Now there are 15, with four of the hires coming in the last six months.
Juon says Google's move to Ann Arbor has done a lot to improve perceptions of the city. "We hadn't anticipated how much it would mean to everyone else." And being so close to Google has been beneficial for Pure Visibility. "It has been good for us to develop a closer relationship," she says.
