Wayne State expands reach into Warren

As if Wayne State University didn't already seem like it was everywhere at once, it's now expanding out into Warren.

Wayne State is opening its Advanced Technology Education Center on Macomb Community College's south campus at the corner of East 12 Mile and Hayes roads. It will offer classes in engineering, computer science and graphic design.

Wayne State is acting on a couple of recommendations from Lieutenant Governor John Cherry's Commission on Higher Education and Economic Growth. Among those recommendations it is encouraging more cooperation between community colleges and the state's universities. The end goal of the commission is to double the number of college graduates in the state within a decade.

Wayne State officials also hope this will make college classes more convenient for potential students in Macomb County. Classes in these areas will begin to be offered in the winter semester.
