Michigan could, should lead in the alternative energy revolution

"The revolution starts now," Steve Earle sings. Then, in another lyric, "The revolution starts here." Though he wasn't singing about the growth and push for alternative energy in Michigan, he surly could have been. Michigan is in a prime position to lead the nation's switch to alternative energy.

Yet the role of innovation in that - and the potential for the United States to become the world leaders in alt energy - formed the heart of Friedman's message for this state and this country.

The U.S. has the creativity and skills to power the world to a revolutionary energy position. It's the patriotic move and the practical move, Friedman said. It also makes the most economic sense for long-term sustainability.

And the place of Michigan in that movement could be at the head of the pack.

Michigan is the home of innovation, and it's gaining ground in alt energy development.
